Committee members will be undertaking essential maintenance at Llyngwyn from 5pm onwards on the evening of Thursday 18th July. Any additional volunteers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to everyone who attended our beginners day today. Conditions were a bit tough but we did manage a couple of hook ups. Great to see the improvement in casting and retrieving. Will hopefully have another session later in July.
16/06/19 - 3rd club competition results - Claerwen Shield
Heaviest Basket 1st Lynn Evans 2nd John Felton 3rd David Davies Heaviest fish - John Felton Best Specimen - Ian Lewis Lots of small fish caught, but with the Coch-y-bonddu beetle failing to show up the bigger fish kept their heads down. 9 anglers caught 23 fish. Best flies were Montana nymph, Kate McLaren, Black Pennell, Zulu, Diawl Bach fished on Floating and Midge tip lines. An Otter was spotted in the reservoir and appeared to be doing better than most. Congratulations to Lynn Evans on winning the Claerwen Shield. Llyngwyn Fly Fishing Beginners Day - We will be holding another free beginners day at 4pm on saturday June 29th at Llyngwyn. It would be great to see those who came to the last beginners day, plus anybody else keen to have a go at fly fishing. Please let us know if you wish to attend so we have an idea of numbers.
Sunday the 16th of June is the date of this year's Claerwen Shield. The date is picked each year to hopefully coincide with the emergence of the Coch-y-bonddu beetle which get the trout rising. Everyone is welcome and if you would like to join the competition we meet up at 9am at the dam wall and head off at 10am. Completion finishes at 5pm and we meet up a The Elan Hotel, Rhayader no later than 5.30pm for the weigh in.
Llyngwyn fishing report for May
F Dunning of London landed a 4lb Rainbow. One of 7 fish caught on Buzzers from the bank. Steve of Tenbury Wells caught a 4lb trout. One of 6 fish taken on a Damsel from the bank. D Jones of Newtown also had a 4lb Rainbow which was one of 5 taken on Damsels and Diawl Bach's. J Henderson of Rhayader had an excellent day fishing from the bank. He managed to land a total of 15 trout using Buzzers and Beetles. R Lewis also had a great day catching and returning 14 trout on the bank. All on Foam Beetles. Ron and Ian Cornwell had a cracking day in the boat netting a total of 24. These were taken on Buzzers, Zonkers, Diawl Bach's and Cormorants. The carp also continue to provide great sport on the fly in the bay nearest the car park. Best flies for May were –Damsels, Buzzers, Diawl Bach's, Beetles Thanks to everyone who attended our beginners day at Llyngwyn today. It was great to meet you all and hopefully we will be able to hold a similar event soon.

1st Paul Metcalf - 6 fish - 3lb 10oz 2nd Roger Lewis - 6 fish - 3lb 9oz 3rd Phil Price - 6 fish- 3lb 9oz Heaviest fish - John Felton 1lb 0oz Best Specimen - John Felton Millennium Doubles winners Phil Price & Ken Holroyd Very tough conditions for our 2nd club competition today. 10 fisherman caught 28 fish. Best flies were Montana Nymph, Black Pennell, Black and Peacock, Kate McLaren and Bibio fished on floating lines. Next competition is the Claerwen Shield on Sunday 16th June at Claerwen reservoir. Meet at the dam. Colin Caldecott of Wrexham caught a Rainbow of 6lb which was the heaviest fish of the month. The fish was caught from the bank on a Black Gnat.
John & Christine MacDonald from the Isle of Wight had an excellent day catching a combined 29 fish from the boat. These were taken on Diawl Bach's, Black Pennells and Black Fritz. Ron Cornwell of Rhayader had 10 trout up to 3 1/2lb and a Carp of around 4lb on various flies from the bank. Ken & Steve Holroyd both had 9 fish each from the bank with both taking fish up to 3 1/2 lb. These were taken on Buzzers, Damsels and Dry's Mr Giles of Hay on Wye also had a Carp of around 4lb and 9 trout from the bank. All taken on Buzzers. Buzzers were also success for B Densombe of Llandrindod Wells who landed 9 trout from the bank. Best flies for April were –Buzzers, Diawl Bach, Damsels and Dry's |
