Llyn Gwyn Fishing Report.
What a great month at Llyngwyn. 150 anglers were recorded netting 400 fish. No large fish were recorded but many in the 3lb region were caught. It was nice to see that many fish were returned to the water. John Henderson of Rhayader netted 9 fish for 20lbs but all were returned. Once again the favorite flies proved best. The Damsel, Montanas, Buzzers, Hoppers and Daddy's on dry lines. Llyngwyn continues to be stocked every two weeks and winter season tickets are now available from 18th October lasting until 19th March. You can purchase these from Powell's Newsagents or Hafod Hardware in Rhayader. Some say the lake fishes better in the winter than the summer. From 1st Sept 2019 Llyngwyn fishing permits and boat permits will no longer be available from Nantymynach Farm. Fishing permits will still be available from R.M. Powell Newsagents and Hafod Hardware in Rhayader. From 1st Sept, people wishing to use a boat will need to obtain a boat permit and combination for the locks from R.M. Powell newsagents. LLYNGWYN Although the weather in July was not ideal for good fishing, there were not many blanks by the 86 anglers who recorded their catches. Many fish in the 3lb to 4lb range were caught, with Ken Holroyd recording one of 4lb 8oz. Annual visitors, John and Christine Macdonald from the Isle of Wight managed 9 fish, weighing 19lbs 8oz caught on a Cat's Whisker. Other flies that produced fish were Damsel, Buzzers, Fritz and Blobs. Heaviest Fish: Ken Holroyd, Tenbury Wells – 4lbs 8oz Rainbow on a Damsel fly. WELSH BANK OPEN 2019

The bright skies kept the fish down in the morning but there was some great dry fly sport in the afternoon thanks to patchy cloud cover. Congratulations to John Felton on winning the competition and thanks to everyone who attended. Next club competition is on Dolymynach reservoir sunday 8th September. Our 3rd Beginners session on Llyngwyn will be held at 5pm on Saturday 3rd August. Please can everyone wishing to attend let us know so that we can ensure we have adequate numbers of anglers and equipment.
Llyngwyn fishing report for June
John Henderson of Rhayader caught the heaviest fish of the month weighing 5lb one of 6 fish caught from the bank on dries and buzzers. John also had another cracking day catching 10 fish on dries buzzers and Diawl Bachs with the heaviest fish weighing 3.5lb. K Jones of Tenbury Wells also managed to land a 3.5lb rainbow from the bank on a Black Shuttlecock. Ian Cornwell of Bridport had a great day landing 10 trout for a combined weight of approximately 18lb caught on a squirmy worm. Mark Esworthy of Howey landed 8 trout for an approximate combined weight of 15lb. These were taken on an Adam's from the bank. Best flies for June were Buzzers, Dries and Nymphs The second Claerwen club competition will be held on 14th July 10am - 5pm. If you wish to attend please meet at the dam from 9am onwards.
