NEWS UPDATE

Llyngwyn Road

2/20/2025

There are currently forestry works taking place at the gateway to Llyngwyn. The road is slightly dug up but passable.
If you have a car that’s low to the ground and you are worried about how your car would cope then please consider a different form of transport or park at the top of the road and walking down the track.

Obituary

Sadly at the end of April 2024 the Association lost another longstanding member,
Peter Medlicott.
Peter was born in 1942 in Knighton, the son of a local solicitor, a profession he would himself take up. Peter started fishing on the river Teme before progressing to the Elan Valley and it's waters in the 1960's. Peter represented Wales on many occasions and fished at Commonwealth level. Peter won the Ghillie Farr Trophy and was a runner up for the Brown Bowl trophy, a testament to Peters angling ability.
Peter was a long-standing member of the WSTAA Committee on which he served as Chairman and Secretary. Peter also served on the associations committee for over 40 years.
Peter was a very generous person and a club stalwart and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Our condolences and thoughts are with Peters family and friends.

LLYNGWYN CLOSED FOR WINTER SEASON.

10/17/2023

Last night the committee made the tough decision to keep Llyngwn closed for the winter season.
We are not satisfied with the water conditions at the lake and we feel that it's in the best interest of the club, it's anglers and the aquatic environment to keep the place closed over the winter.
We know this is disappointing and we will all miss fishing the lake.
We will update you in the spring with any future plans.

Carp re-homing.

9/25/2023

To help improve the water quality at Llyngwyn, Rhayader & Elan Valley AA has asked the Wild Carp Trust to remove an agreed number of carp from the fishery. They will be doing so from Wednesday 4th to Friday 6th October, removing carp via rod and line, and will at the llyn overnight to monitor the fish before they’re transported to their new homes. Minimal disturbance will be made to the fly fishing and we are confident that the activity will help to reduce ammonia levels. We appreciate your support in this matter.

Llyngwyn open from September 1st, 2023

We're pleased to announce that Llyngwyn will re-open from September 1st 2023.
After successfully treating the lake over the summer the water is looking great with no sign of blue-green algae.
However, to prevent the problem from re-occurring we have had to put some measure in place. The bay between the car park and the island and also the very far bay by the lily pads are now both 'No Fishing' and 'No Wading' zones. This is to prevent stirring up the ammonia rich sediment in these locations.

The financial repercussions of closing and the inflation of running costs also means we have had to increase the day tickets prices to £25 and the fish limit is now 2 fish. You can still catch and release after reaching your bag limit of you don't have to keep any if you don't want to.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding. We look forward to welcoming you all back from September.
