Best flies were Montana Nymph, Viva, Zulu, Black and Peacock, Kate McLaren and Bibio fished on intermediate lines. Next competition is Sunday 12th May on the Elan Valley lakes.

Rhayader and Elan Valley Angling Association
Fly Fishing Competitions - 2019 28th April - Elan Valley 12th May - Elan Valley 16th June - Claerwen 14th July - Claerwen 8th September - Dolymynach 29th September - Llyngwyn Sunday 28th April see's the first of our Rhayader and Elan Valley Angling Association fly fishing competitions on the Elan Valley reservoirs. If you want to attend, just turn up at the car park in front of the Nantgwlt church around 9.30am to book in, and then we set off at 10am. The price is the cost of a day ticket (£12) plus £1 for the competition (for non Elan Valley season ticket holders) or just £1 for the competition if you're a Elan Valley season ticket holder. A great days fishing in beautiful surroundings. We then meet up at the Elan Hotel in Rhayader for the weigh-in at 5.30pm. Everybody is welcome and it would be great to see new faces as well as regulars attending.
Llyngwyn fishing report for March
The heaviest fish of the month was for Paul Ireland with a lovely brown trout of approximately 5 ½ lb. The fish was caught from the bank on a Diawl Bach and was released back to fight another day. John Henderson of Rhayader had a cracking day in the boat landing 15 fish for an approximate combined weight of 24lb. These were taken on Cormorants. Shaun Hall of Rhayader also had a great day with 15 fish being brought to the boat on a Squirmy Cat. Steve Holroyd of Tenbury Wells had 15 from the bank on a Damsel and Ken Holroyd had 13 on buzzers. Craig Bufton and Ron Cornwell both had 4lbers, one of 7 fish for both anglers. Craig on Diawl Bach, and Ron on a Humongous. Best flies for March were – Diawl Bach, Cormorants, Buzzers, Damsels |
