Results of round 1 league competition held at llyngwyn today, perfect conditions from.the off,saw a lot of fish being caught with fans and nymphs In the morning and the with the wind picking up lures were the way to go...competition was fished to a 1 kill fish then catch and release.
Top rod went to Lynn Evans with 17 fish with for 33lb 10oz,
2nd place to Roger Lewis with 13 fish for 25lb 12oz and John Felton 3rd with 6 fish11lb 10oz. Heaviest fish was by Phil Price weighing in at 4lb 6oz and safely returned , 5 fish safely returned over 5lb in catch and release.
Llyngwyn has really switched on with the rise in temperatures. 

The fishing at Llyngwyn has been excellent since the start of the year, with many good bag's of fish caught. Mainly using lures such as cats whiskers, Damsels, blobs, boobies etc
Ken Holroyd had a few memorable days with catches of 13, 10 and 12 trout.
Christian Jones also had several great outings catching 10, 10, 9 and 6 on various days.
Lee Jenkins also caught well over the period with catches of 10, 10 and 9 fish
Pat Sharman had an excellent day catching 8 total on a cut throat cat.
A few of the larger trout were caught including 6lb+ rainbows by both Paul Ireland and Ben Evans in the winter league, and we have also heard that a fish around the 10lb mark was recently caught and returned. Hopefully we will have a photo soon.
We now look forward to the summer season on Llyngwyn where buzzers/diawls will become more effective over the next month or so.
The rivers have fished well when conditions have allowed and we are aware of catches of grayling in the 1-2lb range.
Some good early season brown trout have been reported on the river around the 2lb mark C&R on fly.

The Rhayader and Elan Valley Angling Association Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday 7th February, at the Elan Hotel at 7:30PM. All are welcome. ​

​Llyngwyn fished well during October. The trout were taking a variety of flies, including Daddies, Buzzers, GRHE’s, Cormorants & Damsels all working extremely well to tempt the trout into the net, putting a good hard fight up on the way.

Mr Roberts of Chester had a bag of 10 and 6 on two visits using a Damsel. Roger Lewis landed 9 on one visit and 8 the next. Ken Holroyd had a bag of 9 and 5 the following week caught on Damsels; Steve also caught 8 on a Damsel. Mr Burgum landed 8 also with a Damsel and K Gallagher caught 7 with Hoppers and FAB’s.

There will be competitions on the following dates at Llyngwyn.
Entries are now full, so this is just for information purposes so anglers are aware that there will be over 20 fisherman at the venue on these days. ​

​September fishing report:
Damsels seemed to be the fly the trout were chasing during September at Llyngwyn. Mr Roberts from Chester had a bag of 10 and 5 on his next visit all caught on a damsel. Steve Wilde caught 5 on a damsel. Ron Cornwell caught and returned 5 on a damsel. Ken Holroyd also caught 5 on a Damsel with the heaviest being 4 1/2lb. Mr Rowberry also caught 5 but on buzzers.

​August Fishing Report 2021
After a very warm June and July which always proves to be tough fishing, the trout are now on the move from the darker, cooler water and are back feeding, providing some good fishing again. The best bag went to Ken Holroyd with a catch of 11 fish weighing in at 25lb on one visit, then 5 fish with a weight of 10lb and 5 fish at 9 ½ lb. Steve caught 5 rainbows with a total weight of 14lb including a 4lb rainbow caught deep using a slow sinking line and buzzers. K Gallagher had a bag of 6 fish at 14lb. Steve Wilde with 8 fish at 12 lb. Heaviest fish also goes to Ken Holroyd with a 4 ¼lb brown closely followed by Steve with a 4lb rainbow.

​A very hot and sunny June made fishing conditions tough as the water temperature rose and the trout went off feeding and headed for the deeper and cooler water to escape the heat and the sun. Despite these difficult conditions there was some good catches using buzzers and dry flies. Early mornings and evenings seemed the ideal time to fish as the temperature and sun dropped the fishing came alive.
Well done to Steve Price who caught a monster 12lb rainbow, Mike Palfery had a bag of 8 caught on buzzers with the heaviest fish being 4lb. Mike Collins had a bag of 9 also with the heaviest being 4lb caught on a daddy. Steve Wilde had a bag of 6 and 4 on damsels and buzzers. Steve from Tenbury had a bag of 5 caught on buzzers with the heaviest also being 4lb.

​May Fishing report - Llyngwyn

Plenty of sunshine and heavy rain made for good conditions for anglers during May. Buzzers proved to be the fly of the month but Mr. Giles of Hay-on-wye landed a fish of 10lbs on a Diawl Bach and Ron Cornwell a fish of 8lbs on a Cats Whisker. Carl Brown, pictured, caught this lovely rainbow on a lime green buzzer at Lyngwyn.

Out of 200 anglers during May there were only 2 blanks... recorded.
