In June, that wonderful camaraderie will be matched by the quality and hospitality of Wales within the beautiful and scenic surroundings of the mid Wales countryside. The Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships will surely provide an event all participants will enjoy and always remember -win or lose !! I believe that one of the earliest Commonwealth Championships was actually fished in Wales. It was in 1990, the year after the World Fly Fishing was held in the Wrexham area of North Wales. Immediately after the World Championship, the Commonwealth Championship was held on Llyn Brenig, both events having been organised by the Welsh Salmon and Trout Angling Association (WSTAA). This year, working in tandem with the Angling Associations of Rhayader, Builth Wells, Clewedog and Tal-y-llyn, the WSTAA has created a challenge and a setting that the leading world fly fishermen will thoroughly enjoy. As for the Social Programme, what can be said other than this is the "Land of Song". The Commonwealth Championship will bring together friends old and new, sharing a common understanding and re-affirming once again that old adage "there's more to fishing than catching fish".
